HARLEM, NY – Sponsorship Marketing Group, LLC is pleased to announce a sponsorship agreement between Washington Mutual Bank (WaMu) and the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Washington Mutual Bank will become the title sponsor of WaMu’s Apollo Amateur Night at the Apollo. These weekly events showcase new talent at the Apollo, in keeping with its long-standing tradition. WaMu is the first title sponsor of Amateur Night in its 74-year history.
About the Apollo Theater
The Apollo Theater is where legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill and many others got their start. It continues to create legends today with presentations of such new talent as Johnny Legend, India Arie, Fantasia, and more.
The theater is undergoing a major renaissance. Phase 1 of a $65 million renovation of the building has been completed. Exciting new programming and marketing initiatives have been launched.
