Wakeham & Associates Marketing, Inc. and Trees Ontario Announce Official “Green Meeting” Designation
November 30, 2009
Toronto, ON, – Wakeham & Associates Marketing, Inc. and Trees Ontario today announced that it has established a new official ‘Green Meetings’ designation for meetings, conventions, trade shows and other events occurring in Ontario.
For those meetings or events that wish to be officially designated as “green,”, Trees Ontario will conduct an audit based on factors such as mode of transportation and number of attendees at the event and determine its estimated environmental footprint. It will then calculate the number of trees that would need to be planted in order to help offset the environmental footprint of the event. The event planner will be charged a flat rate of $3.00 per tree planted. Trees Ontario will then allocate the use of its “green meetings” seal of approval logo for the event planner to use in marketing materials. Trees Ontario will also feature the meeting or event in a listing of designated “green” events on its website at www.treesontario.ca.
“There is a strong desire among event planners – and venues that host these events – to position themselves as being officially ‘green’. Event planners see this as a key element of marketing campaigns for their events,” said Hugh Wakeham, President of Wakeham & Associates Marketing, Inc. “Trees Ontario is the ideal partner to offer this ‘green’ designation because they have the capability of estimating an event’s environmental footprint, and then determining the number of trees that need to be planted to help offset that footprint. It is easy one-stop-shopping for event planners,” he said.
“Our research shows that environmental issues rank high in importance for Ontarians,” said Michael G. Scott, President and CEO, Trees Ontario. “They are very concerned about air quality and the need to plant more trees. We are pleased to be working with event planners and event venues to designate their events as ‘green’ by planting trees across Ontario.”
